Tina “Sweet-T” Pihl for 9th Ward Alderwoman

(Formerly 17th Ward)

Imagine a Great New 9th!

Priorities

To combat violence in our community, I will work on a comprehensive and pragmatic policing approach that is grounded in fairness and safety for all.

Key Actions:

  • Increase police accountability through more transparency on officer complaints and investigations
  • Consider efficiencies in areas such as overtime and the recruitment of new officers

I have been in St. Louis for nine years, as a neighborhood planner and activist giving voice to many St. Louis residents. I intend to stay rooted in the community and amplify your voices, so collective action leads to positive change and equity for all.

Key Actions:

  • Ask for community input prior to decisions that impact the ward
  • Work closely with existing community groups
  • Share responsibility in working together

Development in our neighborhoods should benefit us all.  I will support investments that are good for our community, making sure neighbors aren’t priced out.

Key Actions:

  • Stop giving tax breaks to luxury developments in wealthy neighborhoods
  • Stimulate small businesses and support women and minority entrepreneurs
  • Investigate home repair and tax relief programs to allow homeowners to stay in their homes
  • Mandate Community Benefits Agreements
  • Create community land trusts
  • Implement a fifty-year action plan for the City of St. Louis

I will be accessible to 17th Ward residents and advocate for transparency throughout city government.

Key Actions:

  • Hold town halls, community specific meetings, and ward meetings (initially by Zoom)
  • Disclose my vote record and make it easily accessible
  • Advocate for participatory budgeting

I will be a strong advocate for public schools and equitable education outcomes for kids from the 17th Ward.

Key Actions:

  • Work with the community to address population loss in schools
  • Vote to ensure public school funding is not depleted by tax incentives being directed to economically advantaged neighborhoods
  • Advocate for high-quality digital and in-person resources

I’ll work with partners across the city to increase transit access for all.

  • Advocate for a north/south MetroLink line
  • Develop a program that helps low-income families obtain an unlimited annual transportation pass; similar to a project that I launched in Colorado

I’ll advocate to close the public health disparity in how COVID-19 resources are allocated in low-income neighborhoods. I’ll work with essential workers, from grocery store workers to healthcare staff, in promoting their safety.

Key Actions:

  • Advocate for increased transparency in allocation of CARES Act funding
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with ward and city residents about COVID-19 developments, including availability of vaccines
